Easy Sausage Cheddar Wontons
These simple and savory wontons are a favorite at my house! Baking the wontons create less of a mess and makes the process easier!
Ingredients
- 1 Pound Pork or Chicken Sausage
- 4 Ounce Whipped Cream Cheese
- 3/4 Cup Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
- 3 Tbsp Chopped Jalapeno (cored and seeded) substitute diced green chiles for less heat
- 1 cup sweet peppers diced
- 1 Package Wonton wrappers I prefer Nasoya won ton wrappers
- 2 Tbsp Fresh cilantro (torn)
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Egg
Instructions
- Brown the sausage in a medium pan over medium heat. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Brush 1/2 tbsp of olive oil on two large sheet pans and set aside.
- In a large bowl stir together sausage, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, jalapeno, sweet peppers, cilantro, salt and pepper.
- Assemble the wontons. Lay wonton wrappers flat and spoon about half a tablespoon of the sausage mixture in the middle. (Try not to overfill) Fold the wonton over to completely cover the mixture to form a triangle. Wet your fingertips and press the edges firmly. Bring the bottom corners together and squeeze. Place each wonton 2 inches apart on the prepared sheet pan.
- Create an egg wash. Whisk one egg with a tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Brush lightly over each wonton.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are browned and crispy.
Notes
The wontons can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. To reheat: Place them in the oven at 200 degrees F for 5-7 minutes.
